What this letter means
A reminder that the balance from an earlier notice is still unpaid.
Why you probably got it
The IRS did not receive full payment after your first bill.
Your deadline
Pay or contact the IRS by the date on the notice. Interest and late-payment penalties keep adding up each month.
What to do next
- Find your first notice (usually a CP14) and compare the amounts.
- Pay in full, or set up a payment plan online.
- If you already paid, gather proof of payment and call the number on the notice.
Scam check: The IRS starts contact by mail. It will never demand payment by gift card, wire transfer, or cryptocurrency, or threaten immediate arrest. Pay only at IRS.gov or by check to the U.S. Treasury, and confirm any phone number at IRS.gov before calling.
This is general information, not legal, tax, or financial advice for your specific situation. Every case is different. Always check the dates and amounts printed on your own documents.
